Awakening Beyond Thought
An Online Interactive Journey Out of the “Blah Blah Blah” of Everyday Life and Into the Simple Strength of Stillness.
Hosted monthly by Gary Weber and Richard Doyle via SynchCast.
Who would you be without your stories?
How do we find peace in the midst of the conflict of everyday life? Is there a dimension of joyful serenity to be found even in the dramatic discord of work, relationships, illness and depression? As the planet seems to spin closer and closer to climatic, environmental and economic chaos, can we thrive with the simple strength of stillness?
Join authors Gary Weber (Happiness Beyond Thought: A Practical Guide to Awakening) and Richard Doyle (Darwin’s Pharmacy: Sex, Plants, and the Evolution of the Noösphere) as they take us on a collective journey through dialogue out of the “blah blah blah” of everyday life and into this joyful stillness that exists just beyond self-referential thought.
Our hosts will explore the recent dramatic expansion in neuroscience’s understanding of the brain’s operation and what it can teach us about finding stillness and deepening the experience of consciousness. We will learn how both meditation and psychedelics can induce an awareness transcending the dramas of everyday life and how neuroscientific maps indicate how and where different types of thoughts originate and how the problematic types of self-referential thought can be reduced or eliminated. When self-referential thoughts begin to dissolve, then unfettered creativity and problem solving can emerge and mystical experiences ensue.
In extemporaneous dialogue and interactive question and answer sessions with the live online audience, Weber and Doyle will practice and discuss techniques for letting go of our self referential stories so that we might experience the simple strength of a radiant stillness.
